R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Nancy Hanks Ellis has been inducted into the 2023 |
|
San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1984, the San Marcos Women's Hall of |
|
Fame has grown to include more than 140 local residents; criteria |
|
for selection include performing volunteer work in multiple areas |
|
of service, meeting the needs of the community, demonstrating |
|
initiative, influencing positive change, and going above and beyond |
|
the call of duty; and |
|
WHEREAS, A resident of San Marcos since 1966, Nancy Ellis |
|
served the community throughout her rewarding five-decade career as |
|
an educator, and she continues to seek out opportunities to better |
|
the lives of underserved women and children since retiring; over |
|
the course of nearly 25 years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, |
|
Ms. Ellis has provided indispensable support to more than 50 |
|
children; she has further championed the needs of area children |
|
through her work as a trustee for the San Marcos Consolidated |
|
Independent School District and as one of the longest-serving |
|
members of the San Marcos chapter of PFLAG; and |
|
WHEREAS, Other local organizations that have benefited from |
|
Ms. Ellis's involvement include CHRISTUS Santa Rosa |
|
Hospital-San Marcos, the Hays-Caldwell Women's Center, and the |
|
Hays County Women's Political Caucus; moreover, she has generously |
|
contributed to her congregation at St. Mark's Episcopal Church as a |
|
member of both the School of Wisdom Committee and the handbell |
|
choir; and |
|
WHEREAS, Nancy Ellis has set an inspiring example of |
|
volunteerism and civic leadership, and the citizens of San Marcos |
|
are fortunate indeed to count her among their fellow residents; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Nancy Hanks |
|
Ellis on her induction into the San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame and |
|
extend to her sincere appreciation for her contributions to her |
|
community; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Ellis as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
