R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of Mary Kay Walker of Flower Mound on October 26, 2023, at |
|
the age of 78; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Bill and Ann Noah, the former Mary |
|
Kay Noah was born in Taylor on July 10, 1945; she graduated from |
|
West Orange Stark High School and attended Lamar University and The |
|
University of Texas at Dallas; in addition, she earned |
|
certification as a litigation paralegal from Southern Methodist |
|
University; she married Al Walker on August 19, 1977, and they were |
|
blessed with four children; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Walker began her career with Sears, and after |
|
gaining experience in its collections department, she went on to |
|
similar employment with Bank One and MCI WorldCom; following her |
|
retirement, she focused on volunteering and became an ardent |
|
champion of support housing, transportation, and community |
|
enhancements for seniors; in 2009, she formed the SIM Auxiliary to |
|
fundraise for the Flower Mound Seniors In Motion program, and she |
|
served as president until her death; she helped to garner tens of |
|
thousands of dollars in support for elders, and she established the |
|
popular annual Elite Chef fundraiser; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2010, Mrs. Walker developed the Volunteer |
|
Program at the newly built Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital and |
|
opened the gift shop; she served her community in numerous other |
|
capacities as well, including as a member of the Parks, Arts, and |
|
Library Services Board, Youth and Family Counseling Board, |
|
Lewisville ISD District Advisory Council, and All Together Flower |
|
Mound Commission; from 2009 to 2023, she was treasurer of the |
|
Villages of Cross Timbers Homeowners Association; a woman of strong |
|
faith, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Lewisville; |
|
considered by many to be the "Queen of Flower Mound," she received |
|
numerous formal accolades, among them a 2016 President's Volunteer |
|
Service Lifetime Achievement Award from President Obama and the |
|
Corporation for National and Community Service and the 2014 |
|
Advocate of the Year Award from the Texas Recreation and Park |
|
Society North Region Conference; and |
|
WHEREAS, The life of Mary Kay Walker stands as an outstanding |
|
example of civic engagement, and her contributions will be |
|
remembered and admired for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|
Mary Kay Walker and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her |
|
family: to her husband, Al Walker; to her children, Karen Anderson |
|
and her husband, Heath, Robin Bellerby and her husband, Tom, |
|
Russell Walker, and Melinda Fator; to her grandchildren, Grace |
|
VanSickle and her wife, Hilary, Sarah Anderson, Rachel Anderson, |
|
Kaylee Bellerby, Montana Bellerby and his wife, Andy, and Cody |
|
Walker; to her sister, Charlotte Foreman, and her husband, Edward; |
|
and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Kay |
|
Walker. |
