R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The I AM a Golfer Foundation is hosting the |
|
|
inaugural Southwest Airlines Showcase at the Cedar Crest Golf |
|
|
Course from November 13 to 15, 2023; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An amateur invitational event, the Showcase at Cedar |
|
|
Crest features top college-aged golfers from diverse backgrounds; |
|
|
the field of 21 men and 21 women players are competing for |
|
|
concurrent championships, and the 54-hole stroke play tournament |
|
|
will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel; the three days of |
|
|
competition are preceded by weekend events that include a player |
|
|
reception, a host of additional community events, and an 18-hole |
|
|
Sponsor-Am; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The tournament serves to highlight the important |
|
|
work carried out by the I AM a Golfer Foundation; established in |
|
|
2018, the group is dedicated to supporting community renewal in |
|
|
Southern Dallas through its efforts to program, preserve, and |
|
|
promote the historic Cedar Crest Golf Course; since its inception, |
|
|
the organization has engaged over 650 area youth in instructional |
|
|
programming at Cedar Crest, created nearly 100 internship positions |
|
|
for local students, and awarded more than $200,000 in college and |
|
|
higher education scholarships; the foundation has also |
|
|
successfully advocated for more than $1 million in course |
|
|
improvements, and each year it holds the Dallas Amateur |
|
|
Championship and the Friends of Cedar Crest Golf Classic as well as |
|
|
other events to bring awareness to the course and community; the |
|
|
organization benefits from the able leadership of its founder Ira |
|
|
Molayo, co-founder and chairman Dave Ridley, and executive director |
|
|
Chuck Walker; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, By highlighting this historic golf course that is a |
|
|
Texas Golf Hall of Fame inductee and helping to promote diversity in |
|
|
the sport, the Southwest Airlines Showcase at Cedar Crest is a |
|
|
welcome addition to the Lone Star State's outstanding lineup of |
|
|
sporting events, and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing Cedar |
|
|
Crest Golf Course on this special occasion; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2023 |
|
|
Southwest Airlines Showcase at Cedar Crest event and extend to the |
|
|
organizers, athletes, and attendees sincere best wishes for a |
|
|
successful showcase; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Cedar Crest Golf Course and the I AM a Golfer |
|
|
Foundation as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives. |
