SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 40

E. F. Whitus |
|
|
WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew |
|
to a close with the passing of E. F. Whitus of Georgetown on |
|
June 22, 2023, at the age of 84; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Ernest Whitus and Grace Ferguson |
|
Whitus, "Bo" Whitus was born in Golden on February 1, 1939, and he |
|
grew up with the companionship of a sister, Anita; during his |
|
youth, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and the Explorer Silver |
|
Award with the Boy Scouts of America, and he graduated with |
|
honors from Mineola High School; he went on to obtain an |
|
associate's degree and his real estate license from Tyler Junior |
|
College and to receive a bachelor's degree in business from The |
|
University of Texas at Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Whitus |
|
served in the United States Navy for more than two and a half |
|
decades, including six years in the reserve, and he retired at |
|
the rank of commander; along the way, he attended the Naval |
|
Postgraduate School for computer science, and after returning to |
|
civilian life, he earned a master's degree from The University of |
|
Texas at Tyler and a doctoral degree from Texas A&M |
|
University-Commerce; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Whitus enjoyed a rewarding career as an |
|
adjunct professor at TAMUC, and he co-owned the H&R Block |
|
franchise in Mineola until his second retirement in 2013; |
|
actively engaged in his community, he was a member of the Mineola |
|
City Council and the Mineola Independent School District Board of |
|
Trustees and an enthusiastic advocate for the Mineola Nature |
|
Preserve; he was also a former mayor of Mineola; among his many |
|
achievements, he received two Paul Harris fellowships for his |
|
service to the local Rotary Club as well as a Silver Beaver award |
|
for his contributions to the Boy Scouts; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Whitus benefited from |
|
the love and support of his wife, Marysue, and he took great pride |
|
in his daughters, Cara and Jennifer, and his grandchildren, |
|
Jackson and Charlotte; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his community, |
|
and his country, Bo Whitus earned the lasting respect and |
|
admiration of all who were privileged to know him; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of E. F. "Bo" Whitus and extend heartfelt sympathy to his loved |
|
ones; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
this day, it do so in memory of Bo Whitus. |
