R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
|
passing of Mary Adele Oden of Kilgore on August 21, 2023, at the age |
|
of 83; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mary Oden was born to Earnest and Yvonne Stoufflet |
|
Eaves on February 7, 1940, in Houma, Louisiana, and she was raised |
|
on her family's dairy farm in Greenwood, Louisiana, with her |
|
brother, Earnest; an alumna of Louisiana Tech University, she later |
|
returned to school, earning a bachelor's degree in biology from The |
|
University of Texas at Tyler and a graduate degree in physics and |
|
biology from Stephen F. Austin State University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Oden enjoyed a 22-year career as a medical |
|
technician and went on to work as a science teacher in Kilgore for |
|
nearly two and a half decades; active in her community, she served |
|
as a director of the Cross Roads Special Utility District, and she |
|
was a hospice volunteer and a Sunday school teacher; and |
|
WHEREAS, Valuing family above all else, Ms. Oden shared a |
|
rewarding marriage with her husband, Donnie Oden, that spanned 44 |
|
years before his passing; she took great pride in their two |
|
children, Vonn and Matt, and through the years, she was further |
|
blessed with two grandchildren, Ryan and Madison, and a |
|
great-grandson, Cole; in her leisure hours, she enjoyed collecting |
|
coins and stamps, and some of her favorite memories were of her |
|
trips to Europe with her daughter; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although she is deeply missed, the passage of time |
|
will never diminish the joy and love that Mary Oden brought into the |
|
lives of all who knew her; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd |
|
Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mary Adele Oden |
|
and extend heartfelt sympathy to her family and friends; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Mary Oden. |
