R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  passing of Shirley Ann Summers of Tyler on July 18, 2023, at the age
  of 88; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of John and Lavada Summers, Shirley
  Summers was born in Tyler on February 15, 1935, and she grew up with
  three sisters, Gerry, Billy Marie, and Jean; she attended Tyler
  High School and went on to graduate from Tyler Junior College; while
  employed as a lab technician at The University of Texas Medical
  Branch at Galveston, she met Charles Edward George; they married
  and became the proud parents of two children, Catherine and Daniel;
  and
         WHEREAS, After moving to Baytown, Ms. Summers became
  involved with the Service League of Baytown, and she was a member of
  Trinity Episcopal Church Baytown; she later continued her
  education, earning a bachelor of science degree from the University
  of Houston and a master of science degree from Texas Woman's
  University; passionate about the medical field, she worked as a
  registered dietician at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston and as a
  dietician consultant at Baylor Scott & White in Dallas; and
         WHEREAS, In retirement, Ms. Summers returned home to Tyler,
  where she joined Marvin Methodist Church; she treasured time spent
  with her five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and she
  enjoyed playing bridge and mah-jongg; and
         WHEREAS, Although Shirley Summers is deeply missed, those who
  held her dear will forever remember the warmth and kindness she
  brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd
  Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Shirley Ann
  Summers and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of her
  family: to her sister, Jean Pipkin; to her daughter, Catherine Ann
  George, and her husband, Thomas Gidley; to her son, Daniel Edward
  George, and his wife, Susan Parks George; to her grandchildren,
  Meghan Gill, Charles Malone, Benjamin George, Caroline George
  Norment, and Elizabeth George Carter; to her great-grandchildren,
  Charlotte and Colton Malone, Alexander and Logan Gill, Thomas
  Norment, and Clare Carter; to her nephews, Ric and Greg Pipkin; to
  her niece, Debbie Freeland; and to her other relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Shirley Summers.
