R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Washington Irving Dual Language Academy, a charter |
|
school in the San Antonio Independent School District, is |
|
celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, Irving Academy was founded in 1923 and named after |
|
Washington Irving, a 19th century American author; it was |
|
established as one of San Antonio ISD's original eight junior high |
|
schools, and classes were initially held at Crockett Elementary |
|
before the Irving Junior High School building officially opened in |
|
January 1924; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1973, Irving Academy moved to its present |
|
location on Delgado Street; a new band and mariachi hall was added |
|
in 2003 as part of a facilities expansion bond program, and the |
|
campus has since offered classes in band, mariachi, choir, and art, |
|
alongside dual language instruction, gifted and talented |
|
programming, special education programming, and guidance services |
|
for eligible students; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, Washington Irving Dual Language Academy |
|
encompasses prekindergarten through eighth grade classes; its |
|
faculty members are committed to cultivating a safe and nurturing |
|
learning environment that empowers students to excel academically |
|
while acquiring language proficiency in both English and Spanish; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, For a century, Washington Irving Dual Language |
|
Academy has provided young Texans with a solid educational |
|
foundation that enables them to reach their full potential and |
|
become productive and engaged members of their communities, and it |
|
is a privilege to join in celebrating this special milestone in the |
|
school's history; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd |
|
Called Session, hereby honor Washington Irving Dual Language |
|
Academy on its centennial and extend to its administrators, |
|
faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
Senate. |
