R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Sidney Lanier High School in the San Antonio |
|
Independent School District is celebrating its 100th anniversary in |
|
2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, The campus traces its origins to 1915, when it was |
|
established as McKinley Elementary; named for American poet, |
|
author, and musician Sidney Lanier, it became Lanier Junior School |
|
in 1923, when the junior school system was first implemented; in |
|
1929, the school expanded to include both junior high and high |
|
school grade levels, and it remained a six-year campus until its |
|
junior high students transferred to a new school in 1969; Sidney |
|
Lanier High School's current campus opened in 1975; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, the school provides students in grades 9 |
|
through 12 with a rigorous curriculum and a broad range of |
|
extracurricular activities; the campus benefits from the able |
|
leadership of its principal, Dr. Ricky Flores; and |
|
WHEREAS, For the past century, Sidney Lanier High School has |
|
provided its students with a strong educational foundation on which |
|
to build, and it has made a positive and lasting difference in the |
|
lives of generations of San Antonio residents; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd |
|
Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Sidney |
|
Lanier High School and extend to the school's faculty, staff, and |
|
students sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Sidney Lanier High School as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas Senate. |
