R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Mark Twain Dual Language Academy in the San Antonio |
|
Independent School District is celebrating its 100th anniversary in |
|
2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, San Antonio citizens voted in 1922 to establish a |
|
pioneering junior high school system for students in grades six |
|
through eight; the resulting eight campuses, which were named after |
|
notable figures of American literature, opened in 1923 and offered |
|
a bridge between elementary and high school and a more challenging |
|
curriculum to better prepare students to succeed; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ably guided by principal David Garcia and assistant |
|
principals Elena Aldaz and Gisella Calejo, Mark Twain Dual Language |
|
Academy currently serves students in prekindergarten through the |
|
eighth grade; the school opened as a dual language institution |
|
during the 2017-2018 school year, and its unique curriculum allows |
|
students to receive academic instruction in both Spanish and |
|
English; the academy also offers extracurricular programs such as |
|
mariachi and sports, and it has been recognized with an A rating; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, For the past century, this noteworthy institution |
|
has provided its students with a strong educational foundation on |
|
which to build, and it has made a positive and lasting difference in |
|
the lives of generations of San Antonio residents; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd |
|
Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mark |
|
Twain Dual Language Academy and extend to its students, faculty, |
|
staff, and alumni sincere best wishes for continued success; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
Senate. |
