R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Chris Young played an essential part in helping the
  Texas Rangers win the 2023 World Series in his role as the team's
  executive vice president and general manager; and
         WHEREAS, The decisive victory came on November 1, with the
  Rangers shutting out the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 in Game 5 of the
  Fall Classic to secure the first World Series title in the
  franchise's 51 years in Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Young joined the Rangers organization in 2020
  and took helm of the team's baseball operations in 2022; his
  leadership and vision have helped transform the ball club, which
  made a dramatic turnaround over the past three seasons to achieve
  its long-held goal of winning a world championship; and
         WHEREAS, A member of the Class of 1998 at Highland Park High
  School in Dallas, Mr. Young earned All-State honors in baseball and
  basketball; he went on to star in both sports at Princeton
  University and was drafted in the third round of the 2000 Major
  League Baseball amateur draft; he made his big-league debut as a
  member of the Rangers and was named the team's Rookie of the Year in
  2005; after being traded to the San Diego Padres, he was selected to
  the 2007 National League All-Star Team, and in 2014, he was named
  the American League Comeback Player of the Year as a member of the
  Seattle Mariners after overcoming years of injuries; he finished
  his career with three seasons in Kansas City and pitched 15 innings
  during the Royals' postseason run to the 2015 World Series title;
  and
         WHEREAS, Following his playing career, Mr. Young worked for
  Major League Baseball for three years and was promoted to senior
  vice president of baseball operations before going to work for the
  Rangers; in all his endeavors, he benefits from the love and support
  of his wife, Liz, and his children, Catherine, Scott, and Grant; and
         WHEREAS, One of only three people to earn World Series rings
  as a player and general manager, Chris Young has been instrumental
  in guiding his hometown team to its first Major League Baseball
  title, and he is indeed deserving of recognition for his
  exceptional achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Chris Young on
  helping the Texas Rangers win the 2023 World Series and extend to
  him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Young as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
