R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Argyle Independent School District is hosting a |
|
|
dedication ceremony on November 13, 2023, to name its |
|
|
administration building in honor of retired superintendent |
|
|
Dr. Telena Wright; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Wright joined Argyle ISD in 2000 as principal of |
|
|
Argyle High School, and she went on to serve as the district's |
|
|
assistant superintendent before being installed as superintendent |
|
|
in 2009; during the course of her outstanding 15-year tenure as |
|
|
superintendent, she oversaw three successful bond programs that |
|
|
included the addition of several new campuses as well as |
|
|
renovations and other improvements to existing campuses; moreover, |
|
|
district enrollment increased from 1,700 to some 5,000 students, |
|
|
and she guided a team to develop a 10-year growth plan for the |
|
|
district; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under Dr. Wright's able leadership, Argyle ISD |
|
|
received a number of honors, including an A accountability rating |
|
|
from the Texas Education Agency and a district score of 97, the |
|
|
highest in the district's history; in addition, Argyle High |
|
|
achieved statewide success in University Interscholastic League |
|
|
competitions, earning 12 Lone Star Cup awards; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Wright holds a bachelor's degree from The |
|
|
University of Texas at Austin, a master's degree in education from |
|
|
Hardin-Simmons University, and a doctorate in education from the |
|
|
University of North Texas; she began her career as a math teacher in |
|
|
San Angelo ISD, where she also served as an elementary and high |
|
|
school counselor, and she later served as an adjunct instructor at |
|
|
UNT; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure with Argyle ISD, Dr. Telena |
|
|
Wright demonstrated the passion, determination, and innovative |
|
|
spirit that are the hallmarks of our best educators, and the naming |
|
|
of the district administration building in her honor is a fitting |
|
|
tribute to her many contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commemorate the dedication |
|
|
of the Argyle ISD Dr. Telena L. Wright Administration Building and |
|
|
commend Dr. Wright for her exemplary record of service; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. Wright as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
