R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Ernestine Lawson is celebrating her 100th birthday |
|
on December 23, 2023, and this occasion provides a welcome |
|
opportunity for family and friends to express the love and |
|
affection they hold for her; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Charlie and Mattie Price, the former |
|
Ernestine Price was born in Winona, Texas, near Tyler, in 1923; she |
|
grew up as the fifth of six siblings in her close-knit family; after |
|
attending elementary and junior high school in Dawson, she went on |
|
to graduate from high school in Tyler; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was joined in matrimony to Charles Lawson, and |
|
they were blessed with five children; Mrs. Lawson devoted herself |
|
to their upbringing until the youngest graduated from high school; |
|
subsequently, she continued her own education, earning a medical |
|
certificate from St. Philip's College; she went on to care for |
|
patients at Baptist Hospital for 27 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, An engaged citizen and woman of faith, Mrs. Lawson |
|
was very involved in her community and her church; she set an |
|
example of grace and fortitude in her victory over lung cancer at |
|
the age of 70; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lawson continued to attend exercise and dance |
|
classes well into her nineties, and she remains vibrant and active; |
|
her fine family has grown to include six generations, who fondly |
|
call her "Madea"; and |
|
WHEREAS, Meeting life's challenges with resilience, |
|
optimism, and determination, Ernestine Lawson holds a special place |
|
in the hearts of her friends and loved ones, and she is an enduring |
|
source of inspiration to all who are fortunate enough to know her; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Ernestine |
|
Lawson on the occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her |
|
sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Lawson as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
