R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |
|
memories of Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry of San Benito, who passed |
|
away on April 21, 2023, at the age of 91; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Emeterio and Eva Arellano, Celia |
|
Arellano Gentry was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico on March 3, |
|
1932; she lived a fulfilling and joyous childhood alongside her |
|
siblings; Ernestine, Antonia, Emeterio, Aurora and Rosemary. |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Gentry graduated in 1952 from San Benito High |
|
School where she was a member of the San Benito Band. She attended |
|
Texas Womans University and graduated with a Bachelor degree in |
|
Education. In 1979 she attended Pan American University and |
|
graduated with a Masters Degree in Special Education and in 1986 |
|
received her Doctorate in Child Psychology from Texas Womans |
|
University. |
|
WHEREAS, Her teaching career started in 1954 in Palacios |
|
CISD. She taught in Harlingen CISD and San Benito CISD for more than |
|
25 years. Dr. Gentry retired from Fort Worth CISD in 1999. After her |
|
retirement, Dr. Gentry continued working for Weslaco CISD where she |
|
taught special education classes and children who were very ill and |
|
home bound. For over a decade, Dr. Gentry worked with numerous |
|
children who needed individualized tutoring, especially children |
|
that were impacted during Covid. Her teaching career spanned over |
|
68 years and touched the lives of over 2,000 children |
|
WHEREAS, She took great pride in her three children, Leslie, |
|
Bobby, and Yvonne; with the passage of time, her treasured family |
|
grew to include six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry lived a life that was rich |
|
in personal and professional achievements, and she will forever be |
|
a source of inspiration to those she leaves behind; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Dr. Celia Arellano Gentry and extend heartfelt sympathy to the |
|
members of her family: to her children, Leslie Whittemore, Bobby |
|
Gentry and Yvonne Guerra; to her grandchildren, Christina Baker, |
|
Katherine Whittaker, Bobby Gentry Jr., Westin Gentry, Taite Gentry, |
|
and Elizabeth Carrillo; and to her other relatives and many |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Celia |
|
Arellano Gentry. |
