R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the |
|
passing of Charlotte Ann Nix Newsom of Ore City on July 28, 2023, at |
|
the age of 70; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of James William and Pat Nix, Charlotte |
|
Newsom was born on February 12, 1953, in Gilmer and grew up in |
|
Jenkins with her sister, Lynette; she graduated from Daingerfield |
|
High School, where she was a member of the marching band, and went |
|
on to earn a bachelor's degree from East Texas State University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Starting out her career as an executive secretary |
|
for the Lone Star Steel Company, Mrs. Newsom later served as a |
|
substitute teacher in the Ore City Independent School District and |
|
worked for the Upshur County Commissioners Court and the Upshur |
|
County Library; engaged in her community, she was a lifetime member |
|
of Jenkins Methodist Church and belonged to the Order of the Eastern |
|
Star, Daingerfield Chapter; and |
|
WHEREAS, On January 17, 1976, she married Joe Wayne |
|
Newsom Sr., and the couple enjoyed a rewarding union that spanned |
|
43 years before his passing; she was a devoted mother to their son, |
|
Joe, taking an active role in the PTA and attending every school |
|
event; in her leisure hours, she pursued a variety of hobbies, |
|
including gardening, painting, and crafting, and she was also an |
|
exceptional cook; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Charlotte Newsom is greatly missed, |
|
memories of her kindness, her generosity of spirit, and her radiant |
|
smile remain to comfort and inspire those she leaves behind; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 4th |
|
Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Charlotte Ann Nix |
|
Newsom and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn her passing; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Charlotte Newsom. |
