AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

The Antarctica Service Medal honors personnel who have trained or served while stationed on the Antarctic continent or aboard vessels in Antarctic waters. H.B. 2921 seeks to recognize recipients of this award by providing for the issuance of Antarctica Service Medal specialty license plates.

H.B. 2921 amends current law relating to the issuance of Antarctica Service Medal specialty license plates.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter E, Chapter 504, Transportation Code, by adding Section 504.417, as follows:

Sec. 504.417. ANTARCTICA SERVICE MEDAL RECIPIENTS. Requires the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to issue specialty license plates for recipients of the Antarctica Service Medal. Requires that license plates issued under this section include the Antarctica Service Medal emblem and the words "Antarctica Service Medal" at the bottom of each plate.

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2023.
