AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Current legislation requires school districts to notify parents or guardians of their right to opt their child into sexual education courses. Previously the burden was on the parent to submit to the school their wish to opt their child out of sexual education courses. This bill seeks to remove the expiration date that was attached at the original passing of the opt-in requirement.
S.B. 163 repeals the expiration date of August 1, 2024, from the written notice opt-in requirement for students to receive sexual education.
As proposed, S.B. 163 amends current law relating to parental approval for a student's participation in human sexuality instruction in public schools.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
