A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a program to provide housing vouchers to emergency |
|
medical services personnel in certain counties. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 2306.553(a), Government Code, is amended |
|
to read as follows: |
|
(a) The public purpose of the corporation is to perform |
|
activities and services that the corporation's board of directors |
|
determines will promote the public health, safety, and welfare |
|
through the provision of adequate, safe, and sanitary housing |
|
primarily for individuals and families of low, very low, and |
|
extremely low income and for persons who are eligible for loans |
|
under the home loan program provided by Section 2306.5621 or who are |
|
eligible for a housing voucher under Section 2306.570. The |
|
activities and services shall include engaging in mortgage banking |
|
activities and lending transactions and acquiring, holding, |
|
selling, or leasing real or personal property. |
|
SECTION 2. Subchapter Y, Chapter 2306, Government Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 2306.570 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 2306.570. HOUSING VOUCHER PROGRAM FOR EMERGENCY |
|
MEDICAL SERVICES PERSONNEL. (a) In this section, "emergency |
|
medical services personnel" has the meaning assigned by Section |
|
773.003, Health and Safety Code. |
|
(b) The corporation shall, using available resources, |
|
establish a housing voucher program in a county with a population of |
|
more than 1 million and less than 1.5 million to provide housing |
|
vouchers to emergency medical services personnel. |
|
(c) The corporation's board of directors shall adopt rules: |
|
(1) governing the program's administration; |
|
(2) establishing eligibility criteria for a person to |
|
receive a housing voucher under the program; |
|
(3) establishing a mechanism to determine the amount |
|
of a housing voucher provided under the program; and |
|
(4) prescribing any other program requirements that |
|
the board determines necessary. |
|
(d) The corporation may accepts gifts, grants, and |
|
donations from any source to establish and operate the program. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
