A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to protection from employment retaliation for reporting |
|
the existence of certain policies, patterns, or practices of a |
|
local entity or institution of higher education related to |
|
immigration. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 752, Government Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 752.0535 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 752.0535. RETALIATION PROHIBITED FOR REPORTING |
|
VIOLATION. A local entity or institution of higher education may |
|
not suspend or terminate the employment of, or take other adverse |
|
personnel action against, a public employee who in good faith |
|
reports to an appropriate law enforcement authority the existence |
|
of a policy, pattern, or practice of the employing entity or |
|
institution that violates Section 752.053. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
