A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a report on recidivism rates. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 322, Government Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 322.0195 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 322.0195. RECIDIVISM REPORT. (a) The board shall |
|
|
prepare a biennial report on recidivism that includes rearrest and |
|
|
reincarceration rates. The report must include: |
|
|
(1) statewide rearrest and reincarceration rates for |
|
|
individuals released from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice |
|
|
or the Texas Juvenile Justice Department; and |
|
|
(2) rearrest and reincarceration rates for all |
|
|
individuals for the following counties: |
|
|
(A) Bexar; |
|
|
(B) Collin; |
|
|
(C) Dallas; |
|
|
(D) Denton; |
|
|
(E) El Paso; |
|
|
(F) Fort Bend; |
|
|
(G) Harris; |
|
|
(H) Hidalgo; |
|
|
(I) Tarrant; and |
|
|
(J) Travis. |
|
|
(b) In preparing the report, the board shall collaborate |
|
|
with the Department of Public Safety and each sheriff. The |
|
|
Department of Public Safety and each sheriff shall provide any |
|
|
information requested by the board for the purpose of preparing the |
|
|
report. |
|
|
(c) The report may be included in any other report made by |
|
|
the board. |
|
|
(d) Not later than the last day of February of each |
|
|
odd-numbered year, the board shall submit the report to the |
|
|
governor, the lieutenant governor, and each member of the |
|
|
legislature. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
