A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to certain government contracts with and investments in |
|
|
companies that boycott Israel. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 808.001(1), Government Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(1) "Boycott Israel" means refusing to deal with or |
|
|
[,] terminating business activities with[, or otherwise taking any |
|
|
action that is intended to penalize, inflict economic harm on, or |
|
|
limit commercial relations specifically with] Israel, or with a |
|
|
person or entity doing business in Israel or in an |
|
|
Israeli-controlled territory, but does not include an action made |
|
|
for ordinary business purposes. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
