A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to active shooter response training for peace officers, |
|
|
including school district peace officers and school resource |
|
|
officers. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 37.0812(a), Education Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) A school district peace officer or school resource |
|
|
officer shall complete an active shooter response training program |
|
|
approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as required |
|
|
under Section 1701.271, Occupations Code. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Subchapter F, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 1701.271 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 1701.271. ACTIVE SHOOTER RESPONSE TRAINING PROGRAM. |
|
|
(a) The commission shall approve a training program on appropriate |
|
|
and effective law enforcement responses to an active shooter |
|
|
situation. |
|
|
(b) The commission, by rule, shall require each peace |
|
|
officer to complete a course approved under Subsection (a) at least |
|
|
once in each four-year period. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
