A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a study on uranium deposits in this state. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. DEFINITION. In this Act, "commission" means the |
|
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. |
|
SECTION 2. STUDY ON URANIUM DEPOSITS IN THIS STATE. The |
|
commission shall conduct a study on the uranium deposits in this |
|
state and how utilizing those deposits could lessen the United |
|
States' reliance on foreign sources of uranium. |
|
SECTION 3. REPORT. Not later than December 1, 2024, the |
|
commission shall submit to the governor, lieutenant governor, and |
|
speaker of the house of representatives a report that includes the |
|
findings of the study and any recommendations for legislative or |
|
other action. The report must include recommendations for |
|
legislative or regulatory changes and potential economic incentive |
|
programs to support the uranium mining industry in this state. |
|
SECTION 4. EXPIRATION. This Act expires January 1, 2025. |
|
SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect |
|
immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members |
|
elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas |
|
Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for |
|
immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
