A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the provision of affordable housing by certain housing |
|
|
authorities for youth aging out of foster care. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 392, Local Government |
|
|
Code, is amended by adding Section 392.068 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 392.068. PRIORITY PLACEMENT FOR CERTAIN YOUTH AGING |
|
|
OUT OF FOSTER CARE. (a) This section applies only to a housing |
|
|
authority located in a municipality that contains more than 70 |
|
|
percent of the population of a county with a population of 1.5 |
|
|
million or more. |
|
|
(b) In providing affordable housing, a housing authority to |
|
|
which this section applies shall give first priority to youth aging |
|
|
out of foster care who reside in the authority's area of operation. |
|
|
(c) A housing authority to which this section applies that |
|
|
manages a waitlist for the provision of affordable housing must |
|
|
give first priority on the waitlist to youth aging out of foster |
|
|
care who reside in the authority's area of operation. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
