A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the revision of the essential knowledge and skills of |
|
|
the public school social studies curricula to include instruction |
|
|
relating to the history of persons with disabilities. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Not later than March 1, 2024, the State Board of |
|
|
Education shall revise the essential knowledge and skills for |
|
|
social studies as necessary to require, as age and grade-level |
|
|
appropriate, instruction in: |
|
|
(1) the history of persons with disabilities; and |
|
|
(2) the disability rights movement in the United |
|
|
States. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
