A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a study by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute |
|
|
regarding the economic impact of navigation districts on the state |
|
|
and local economies. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. STUDY ON ECONOMIC IMPACT OF NAVIGATION |
|
|
DISTRICTS. (a) The Texas A&M Transportation Institute shall |
|
|
conduct a study to examine the economic impact and potential for |
|
|
economic growth of navigation districts in this state. The study |
|
|
shall determine: |
|
|
(1) the direct economic impact of each navigation |
|
|
district on the economy of this state; |
|
|
(2) the total population located in the boundaries of |
|
|
each navigation district; and |
|
|
(3) the projected economic growth over the next 10 |
|
|
years for each navigation district. |
|
|
(b) In addition to the requirements of Subsection (a) of |
|
|
this section, the study shall determine the economic impact, |
|
|
population, and projected economic growth of each navigation |
|
|
district at the county level. |
|
|
SECTION 2. REPORT. Not later than December 1, 2024, the |
|
|
Texas A&M Transportation Institute shall submit to the lieutenant |
|
|
governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, and each |
|
|
member of the legislature a written report containing the results |
|
|
of the study under Section 1 of this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September |
|
|
1, 2023. |
