A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the approval of purchases under the supplemental |
|
special education services and instructional materials program by a |
|
public school student's admission, review, and dismissal |
|
committee. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 29.046(a), Education Code, is amended to |
|
read as follows: |
|
(a) Money in an account assigned to a student under Section |
|
29.045 may be used only for supplemental special education services |
|
and supplemental special education instructional materials |
|
approved by the student's admission, review, and dismissal |
|
committee under Section 29.048(c). |
|
SECTION 2. Section 29.048, Education Code, is amended by |
|
adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
|
(c) The admission, review, and dismissal committee of a |
|
student approved for participation in the program shall hold an |
|
admission, review, and dismissal committee meeting for the student |
|
with the student's parent before grant money is assigned to a |
|
student's account under the program to determine and approve the |
|
supplemental special education services and supplemental special |
|
education instructional materials that would best serve the |
|
student. The committee shall provide the student's parent and the |
|
agency the list of approved services and materials for the student. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 |
|
school year. |
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
