CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, Edward Runyan is being inducted into the Petroleum |
|
Hall of Fame on April 30, 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, Based at the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in |
|
Midland, the Petroleum Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have |
|
made outstanding contributions to the development of the petroleum |
|
industry in the region; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ed Runyan is an alumnus of the University of Tulsa, |
|
where he earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in |
|
petroleum engineering; he began his career as a reservoir engineer |
|
at Sohio Petroleum Co., before serving in the United States Army and |
|
then moving to Midland to become a district engineer for Sohio in |
|
1960; he continued acquiring experience in the industry while |
|
working for Permian Enterprises and Elcor Chemical Corporation, |
|
where he was named vice president of the corporation and president |
|
of its Agriculture Chemicals Division in 1963; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1969, Mr. Runyan founded Weeks Petroleum Ltd., |
|
which later became Bell Petroleum Services; he subsequently |
|
established Texon Oil Company, and in 1990, he acquired a |
|
controlling interest in Mid-America Petroleum, which he made |
|
private and renamed Seaboard Oil Company; over the past quarter of a |
|
century, Texon and Seaboard have been credited with the discovery |
|
of several significant oil fields; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Runyan has earned the respect and admiration of |
|
his professional peers through his service in roles such as |
|
president of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, chair of the SPE |
|
Foundation, and president of the American Institute of Mining, |
|
Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers; he and his wife, Marilee |
|
Runyan, are also longtime supporters of the University of Tulsa, |
|
which honored him as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1978; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ed Runyan has built a reputation as a dynamic leader |
|
and innovator in the petroleum industry, and he may indeed take |
|
pride in this prestigious recognition of his lifetime achievements; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby congratulate Edward Runyan on his induction into the |
|
Petroleum Hall of Fame and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
|
future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Runyan as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives and Senate. |
