CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, Don Sparks is being inducted into the Petroleum Hall |
|
of Fame on April 30, 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Petroleum Hall of Fame, established in 1967 by |
|
the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in Midland, recognizes |
|
individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the |
|
petroleum industry and set inspiring examples of exemplary service, |
|
good character, and high achievement; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Sparks joined the Shell Oil Company after |
|
graduating from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in |
|
petroleum engineering; following his service in the U.S. Navy, he |
|
returned to Shell as an exploitation engineer in charge of the |
|
drilling and completion procedures for development wells in West |
|
Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, After working for Freeport Oil Co. and Bailey, |
|
Sipes, Williamson and Runyan, Mr. Sparks formed Discovery |
|
Operating in 1973; over the years, the company has grown to |
|
encompass 31 employees and 420 wells that produce 10,700 barrels of |
|
crude and condensate and 13 million cubic feet of natural gas per |
|
day; and |
|
WHEREAS, Don Sparks has distinguished himself as a successful |
|
and influential figure in an industry that is a vital part of the |
|
Texas economy, and it is truly fitting that he should receive this |
|
prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
congratulate Don Sparks on his induction into the Petroleum Hall of |
|
Fame and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Sparks as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives and Senate. |
