HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Midland High School football team is receiving |
|
|
the Innovation in Volunteerism Award as part of the 39th annual |
|
|
Governor's Volunteer Awards; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Presented in conjunction with the OneStar |
|
|
Foundation, the Governor's Volunteer Awards pay tribute to the |
|
|
exemplary service of individuals, groups, and organizations that |
|
|
have made significant contributions to Texas communities; this |
|
|
year's recipients are being honored in April during a reception |
|
|
hosted by First Lady Cecilia Abbott at the Texas Governor's |
|
|
Mansion; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of the Midland High School football team |
|
|
are being recognized for generously donating their time and talents |
|
|
to support numerous community service projects; their achievements |
|
|
have included partnering with Keep Midland Beautiful to clean up |
|
|
trash in the community, conducting the Books and Bulldogs summer |
|
|
reading program with the Midland YMCA, and collecting school |
|
|
supplies for donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These dedicated student-athletes are guided by head |
|
|
coach Thad Fortune, who has made service leadership volunteer |
|
|
projects an integral part of the Bulldog football program; the |
|
|
initiative encompasses both junior high and high school athletes, |
|
|
and includes more than 600 students in grades 7 through 12; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of the Midland High School football team |
|
|
have greatly contributed to their community and set an example of |
|
|
good citizenship to which others may aspire, and they are indeed |
|
|
deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
|
hereby congratulate the Midland High School football team on |
|
|
receiving the Innovation in Volunteerism Award as part of the 39th |
|
|
annual Governor's Volunteer Awards and extend to all those |
|
|
associated with the team sincere best wishes for the future; and, be |
|
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives and Senate. |
