R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud residents of Rockwall County are marking the
  150th anniversary of their county's founding on January 22, 2023;
  and
         WHEREAS, Located on the Blackland Prairie, the region was
  originally inhabited by the Caddo and Creek peoples; Anglo settlers
  first arrived in the area during the 1840s, when the Republic of
  Texas Central National Road was constructed, with the cities of
  Rockwall and Heath founded along this route; the area was part of
  Nacogdoches, Henderson, and Kaufman Counties before the official
  formation of Rockwall County in 1873; the county takes its name from
  the distinctive subterranean rock formation that crosses the land;
  and
         WHEREAS, Despite being the smallest county in Texas, Rockwall
  County is one of the most prosperous counties in the state and one
  of the fastest growing counties in the country; located just
  outside of Dallas and bounded on the west by Lake Ray Hubbard, the
  county has shifted in recent years from a largely agricultural area
  to a desirable residential suburb; and
         WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work together
  to build an even brighter future, the people of Rockwall County may
  indeed take great pride in the role their community continues to
  play in the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of Rockwall
  County and extend to the county's residents sincere best wishes for
  the future.
