R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Officer Dana Thomasson of the La Marque Police |
|
Department received a commendation on January 9, 2023, in honor of |
|
her role in rescuing a child who had gone missing during the |
|
December 2022 winter storm; and |
|
WHEREAS, On December 22, an Arctic front blew into Galveston |
|
County, causing temperatures to plunge to the teens and low 20s; the |
|
frigid weather heightened the community's fears when a six-year-old |
|
boy vanished while playing in his front yard on December 23, |
|
prompting the La Marque Police Department to launch an immediate |
|
search around the area; and |
|
WHEREAS, Officer Dana Thomasson, a member of the department |
|
since 2017, volunteered with the search efforts, despite being off |
|
duty that day; after going door-to-door and searching a number of |
|
yards, she spotted the boy sheltering in the bushes of a residence, |
|
bringing the nine-hour-long ordeal to an end; the boy was found to |
|
be unharmed, much to the relief of his family and all those who had |
|
worked tirelessly to locate him; and |
|
WHEREAS, By taking action to rescue a child in grave danger, |
|
Officer Dana Thomasson helped to avert what could have been a |
|
terrible tragedy, and she is indeed deserving of recognition for |
|
her outstanding devotion to duty; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Officer Dana Thomasson for assisting in |
|
the safe return of a missing child on December 23, 2022, and extend |
|
to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her important |
|
work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Officer Thomasson as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
