R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The retirement of Major Danny Williams from the
  Dallas Police Department is being celebrated with a special event
  in his honor on February 3, 2023; and
         WHEREAS, Danny Williams is a 36-year veteran of the
  department, where he was hired in 1986; he worked as a patrol
  officer and in youth operations and felony assaults investigation
  before being promoted to patrol sergeant in 1997; after earning
  another promotion to the rank of lieutenant in 2006, he held various
  leadership roles in the department, which included serving as
  commander of the S.W.A.T. Team, the Central Business District, and
  the vice and gangs units; and
         WHEREAS, Major Williams was elevated to his current rank in
  2014, and he subsequently commanded the department's South Central
  Patrol Division, Field Services Division, and Criminal
  Investigations Bureau; one of his proudest accomplishments was his
  leadership of the Northeast Patrol Division in the successful
  collaboration with other city service departments to combat violent
  crime in north Dallas during the summer months; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Holly Grove, Arkansas, Major Williams
  earned his bachelor's degree in public administration from the
  University of Central Arkansas and his master's degree in criminal
  justice from the University of North Texas; he is also a 2015
  graduate of the Caruth Police Institute and a 2018 graduate of the
  FBI National Academy, and he is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha
  Fraternity, Inc.; in addition to his duties with the department, he
  previously served as an adjunct instructor in criminal justice at
  the University of Phoenix and Dallas College; and
         WHEREAS, Through his leadership, professionalism, and
  commitment to protecting and serving his community, Major Danny
  Williams has greatly benefited the citizens of Dallas, and he may
  indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on
  the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Major Danny Williams on his
  retirement from the Dallas Police Department and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Major Williams as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
