H.R. No. 207
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For 100 years, residents of the Bryan-College
  Station area have come together to celebrate their faith at
  A&M United Methodist Church; and
         WHEREAS, The Texas Conference of the Methodist Episcopal
  Church sent its first representative, the Reverend King Vivion, to
  the area in 1920 to establish a church at the Texas A&M campus; land
  was purchased across from the campus, and the church was officially
  established on February 23, 1923; a tabernacle was erected to serve
  as a sanctuary and church school building; over the years, the
  congregation flourished, and in 1946, an educational building was
  added, followed in 1951 by a new sanctuary, complete with stained
  glass windows honoring World War I and World War II service members;
  in 1987, a pipe organ was installed in the chancel, and the growing
  church acquired additional properties and constructed a Christian
  Life Center; and
         WHEREAS, Since its inception, A&M United Methodist Church has
  played a vital role in the university community, providing members
  with myriad opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, and
  outreach; in addition, the church helped to organize other area
  churches, including Aldersgate United Methodist Church and Christ
  Church; and
         WHEREAS, The congregation has benefited from the able
  leadership of a number of dedicated pastors, and today that
  tradition of service is continued by W. Preston Greenwaldt; and
         WHEREAS, A&M United Methodist Church has long served as a
  source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and
  its continued existence is a testament to the unwavering commitment
  of its members and clergy, both past and present; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of A&M United
  Methodist Church and extend to the congregation sincere best wishes
  for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
