R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Todd Sutherland, head coach of the boys' basketball |
|
|
team at East Chambers High School in Winnie, recorded his 900th |
|
|
career win on February 3, 2023; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The winningest high school basketball coach in |
|
|
southeast Texas, Mr. Sutherland attained the landmark victory in a |
|
|
matchup against Orangefield High School; the Buccaneers triumphed |
|
|
47-38, lifting their coach to a new level of success; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of his exceptional career, |
|
|
Mr. Sutherland has also coached at Hardin-Jefferson, West |
|
|
Orange-Stark, and Kountze High Schools; in addition to taking the |
|
|
Buccaneers to the state tournament in 2016 and 2019, he guided two |
|
|
teams to state championships, having won titles with Kountze in |
|
|
2004 and Hardin-Jefferson in 2007; moreover, he has distinguished |
|
|
himself as an algebra teacher at East Chambers High; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Coach Sutherland enjoys the |
|
|
love and support of his wife, Jenny Ney Sutherland, with whom he has |
|
|
shared a rewarding marriage that has spanned more than four |
|
|
decades; he takes tremendous pride in his children, Whitney Harris, |
|
|
Taylor Sutherland, and Grayson Sutherland; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In reaching the 900-win plateau, Todd Sutherland has |
|
|
earned a special place in the pantheon of Lone Star State basketball |
|
|
coaches, and this rare feat is indeed deserving of commendation; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Todd Sutherland on his 900th career |
|
|
victory and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Coach Sutherland as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
