R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Representatives from the College of Agriculture and |
|
Human Sciences at Prairie View A&M University are gathering at the |
|
State Capitol on February 21, 2023, and this occasion presents a |
|
welcome opportunity to recognize the college; and |
|
WHEREAS, Serving to strengthen the land grant mission of |
|
Prairie View A&M University, which is part of The Texas A&M |
|
University System, the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences |
|
offers a diverse and well-rounded curriculum with programs in the |
|
areas of animal and veterinary sciences, human sciences, nutrition |
|
and food security, and plant and environmental sciences; and |
|
WHEREAS, The college oversees a 770-acre research and |
|
demonstration farm and holds classes at a modern facility that |
|
opened in 2016 with state-of-the-art labs, instruments, and |
|
greenhouses; researchers at the Cooperative Agricultural Research |
|
Center are finding ways to address a wide range of complex social |
|
issues, including food security, obesity and cancer, the nutrition |
|
and shelf life of agricultural products, allergens, and the |
|
ecosystem; and |
|
WHEREAS, The College of Agricultural and Human Sciences is |
|
dedicated to serving disadvantaged students through scholarships |
|
and other initiatives; moreover, its Cooperative Extension |
|
Program, which works in partnership with Texas A&M AgriLife |
|
Extension Service, directly addresses the needs of half a million |
|
limited resource citizens through campus-based and 35 extension |
|
offices across Texas; in addition to providing agricultural |
|
knowledge and outreach to local farmers and producers, it also |
|
assists in the areas of family and community health, economic |
|
development, and 4-H and youth development; and |
|
WHEREAS, The College of Agriculture and Human Sciences has |
|
helped provide its students with a strong foundation for |
|
leadership, service, and research, while also helping farmers and |
|
other members of local communities to implement lasting positive |
|
change; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the College of Agriculture and Human |
|
Sciences at Prairie View A&M University for its dedication to |
|
education, research, and public service and extend to all those |
|
associated with the college sincere best wishes for the future; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the college as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
