R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Lavona Burgess of the Flower Mound Police Department |
|
|
retired as director of support services on November 18, 2022, |
|
|
drawing to a close an exemplary tenure with the agency that spanned |
|
|
22 years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Burgess began her career as an emergency |
|
|
communications officer and 9-1-1 operator for the Wise County |
|
|
Sheriff's Office in 1994, and she went on to join the Flower Mound |
|
|
Police Department on November 4, 2000; over the years, she served as |
|
|
a communications officer, training coordinator, records clerk, |
|
|
property and evidence analyst, and support services manager; she |
|
|
was promoted to director of support services in 2018, and she |
|
|
further distinguished herself as a member of the department's |
|
|
command staff; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Among her many achievements, Ms. Burgess was |
|
|
honored as Communications Officer of the Year in 2002 and as |
|
|
Civilian of the Year in 2009; she received her master's degree in |
|
|
criminal justice administration from the University of North Texas; |
|
|
in addition, she holds advanced telecommunicator certification as |
|
|
well as advanced property and technician certification, and she is |
|
|
a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston |
|
|
University and the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Lavona Burgess has played an important role in |
|
|
furthering the mission of the Flower Mound Police Department, and |
|
|
she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as she |
|
|
embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Lavona Burgess on her retirement |
|
|
from the Flower Mound Police Department and extend to her sincere |
|
|
best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Burgess as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
