R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |
|
memories of Lawrence Slatter, who passed away on January 27, 2023; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Allenhurst, Georgia, Lawrence Slatter moved |
|
with his family to Adel in his youth; he graduated from Cook County |
|
Training School and continued his education at Tuskegee University, |
|
where he earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in |
|
electrical engineering; he went on to receive a master's degree in |
|
business administration from Indiana University; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1971, Mr. Slatter embarked on a successful career |
|
with the Xerox Corporation that spanned more than three decades; |
|
over the years, he held many positions with the company, serving as |
|
senior vice president of the U.S. and Canadian systems services |
|
group and leading the U.S. marketing organization quality team, and |
|
he helped Xerox secure a U.S. National Quality Award; following his |
|
retirement, he served as the chief operating officer for CONEXIS |
|
for two years; and |
|
WHEREAS, An engaged citizen, Mr. Slatter took part in the |
|
historic Selma to Montgomery March in 1965; moreover, he chaired |
|
the Rae's Hope board of directors and played an active role in |
|
numerous outreach programs in the Hamilton Park neighborhood of |
|
Dallas, including the Hamilton Park Health Fair Ministry and its |
|
golf tournament; he also provided funding for Tuskegee University |
|
scholarships; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Slatter enjoyed the love |
|
and support of his wife, Anne; he was a devoted father to his three |
|
children and took great pride in seeing each of them graduate from |
|
college; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lawrence Slatter lived a life that was rich in |
|
personal and professional achievements, and he will forever be a |
|
source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lawrence Slatter |
|
and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lawrence |
|
Slatter. |
