R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Lewisville High School is celebrating its 125th
  anniversary in 2023; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1897 in the farming community of
  Lewisville, the facility offered one of the first dedicated high
  school programs in North Texas; the first Lewisville High class in
  1901 was composed of five students; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Lewisville High serves an enrollment of more
  than 4,200, and it graduated a class of 1,154 students in 2022; the
  school currently benefits from the leadership of its principal, Jim
  Baker, its chief of high schools, Andy Plunkett, and a dedicated
  faculty and staff; and
         WHEREAS, The Lewisville High mascot, the Fighting Farmers,
  traces its origins back to 1914 and the start of the LHS football
  program; the team was named by B. F. Tunnell, the Lewisville school
  district superintendent and a vocational agriculture teacher; well
  known throughout Texas, the Fighting Farmers mascot reflects the
  area's rich agricultural roots; and
         WHEREAS, For well over a century, Lewisville High School has
  provided generations of young Texans with a strong foundation on
  which to build, and its rich history is a source of tremendous pride
  to the community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 125th anniversary of Lewisville
  High School and extend to all those associated with the school
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Lewisville High School as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
