R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association |
|
recognized Bob Buchholz of Eldorado with its prestigious Earwood |
|
Award at the association's 107th annual convention on July 15, |
|
2022, in Kerrville; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1969 by the friends and family of the |
|
late Fred Earwood of Sonora, the TSGRA's Earwood Award honors those |
|
whose loyalty and dedication to the sheep and goat industry |
|
exemplify land and livestock values; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bob Buchholz grew up on the Nagel Ranch in Hays |
|
County, and after graduating from Dripping Springs High School, he |
|
attended Tarleton State University; he went on to complete the |
|
Texas Christian University Ranch Management program in 1975, and |
|
shortly thereafter, he began training horses for the public along |
|
with his brother, David; in 1977, Mr. Buchholz and his brother |
|
began leasing property to run Angora goats and Angus cattle, and |
|
they were among the first in Texas to use and breed Great Pyrenees |
|
guard dogs to protect sheep and goats; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1991, Mr. Buchholz married his wife, Mary, and |
|
they share three sons, Robert, Dalton, and Franklin; today, the |
|
family raises meat goats, sheep, and cattle in Schleicher, |
|
Crockett, and Menard Counties; rotational grazing, prescribed |
|
burning, trapping, and livestock protection dogs are all an |
|
essential part of their ranching operation; and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Buchholz is the |
|
president of the Schleicher County Predator Association; he has |
|
also held leadership positions with a number of other |
|
organizations, including the Eldorado-Divide Soil and Water |
|
Conservation District Board, the Edwards Plateau Prescribed |
|
Burning Association, the American Sheep Industry Association, the |
|
American Goat Federation, and the TSGRA, which he has benefited as a |
|
past president, as a director, and as chair of the meat goat |
|
committee; in 2008, the association recognized him with its Young |
|
Ranchers Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bob Buchholz has distinguished himself through his |
|
tireless dedication to the sheep and goat industry, and he may |
|
indeed take great pride in his receipt of this prestigious |
|
accolade; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Bob Buchholz on his receipt of the |
|
2022 Earwood Award from the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers |
|
Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Buchholz as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
