R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, G. J. Kinne was named the new head coach of the Texas |
|
State University football team on December 2, 2022, opening a new |
|
chapter for the Bobcat football program; and |
|
WHEREAS, The 21st coach in TXST history, G. J. Kinne arrives |
|
in San Marcos after overseeing the football team at the University |
|
of the Incarnate Word; during the 2022 season, he helped the |
|
Cardinals win the Southland Conference title, and his |
|
accomplishments were recognized with his selection as a finalist |
|
for the prestigious Eddie Robinson Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, A skilled athlete at the high school, college, and |
|
professional levels, Mr. Kinne played for Canton High and Gilmer |
|
High and is a graduate of the University of Tulsa; during his |
|
collegiate career, he was a three-year starter for the Golden |
|
Hurricane and threw for 9,472 yards and 81 touchdowns; he went on to |
|
play in the National Football League for the New York Jets, |
|
Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants, as well as in the Canadian |
|
Football League for the Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan |
|
Roughriders; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of legendary high school football coach Gary |
|
Joe Kinne, G. J. Kinne launched his coaching career at Southern |
|
Methodist University in 2017 and then became an offensive analyst |
|
at the University of Arkansas before joining the Philadelphia |
|
Eagles as an assistant; from there, he went on to serve as offensive |
|
coordinator at the University of Hawaii in 2020 and to helm the |
|
offensive unit at the University of Central Florida in 2021; in all |
|
his endeavors, he benefits from the love and support of his wife, |
|
Summer, and their two sons; and |
|
WHEREAS, G. J. Kinne will now put his experience and know-how |
|
to work in guiding the Texas State Bobcats, and the university's |
|
students, alumni, and supporters are justifiably excited to welcome |
|
this proven leader to San Marcos; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate G. J. Kinne on his selection as |
|
head coach of the Texas State University football team and extend to |
|
him sincere best wishes for success in his new position; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Kinne as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
