R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Kelly R. Damphousse was appointed as the 10th |
|
president of Texas State University on April 21, 2022; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of northern Canada, Kelly Damphousse moved |
|
during high school to southern Alberta, where he aspired as a young |
|
man to become an officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police; after |
|
receiving an associate's degree in law enforcement from Lethbridge |
|
Community College, he worked as a prison guard for three years |
|
before earning a bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Sam |
|
Houston State University and a master's degree and Ph.D. in |
|
sociology from Texas A&M University; and |
|
WHEREAS, A well-regarded scholar in the study of terrorism, |
|
substance abuse, and the criminal justice system, Dr. Damphousse |
|
began his career at the University of Alabama at Birmingham before |
|
returning to SHSU to teach; he then joined the faculty of the |
|
University of Oklahoma, where he was a Presidential Professor of |
|
Sociology as well as associate dean and dean of the College of Arts |
|
and Sciences at Oklahoma; he went on to serve as chancellor of |
|
Arkansas State University in Jonesboro for five years before |
|
becoming president of TXST in April 2022; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Damphousse is also a national leader in |
|
collegiate athletics; he was the faculty athletics representative |
|
at the University of Oklahoma for five years, and he is currently a |
|
member of the NCAA Board of Directors and the NCAA Board of |
|
Governors and the board president of the Sun Belt Conference; in all |
|
his endeavors, he benefits from the love and support of his wife, |
|
Beth, as well as that of his daughters, Kayleigh and Kristen; and |
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Kelly |
|
Damphousse has worked tirelessly to prepare students for the |
|
challenges and opportunities of a changing world, and he has |
|
demonstrated the vision and leadership necessary to advance the |
|
mission of Texas State University in the years to come; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Kelly R. Damphousse on his |
|
appointment as president of Texas State University and extend to |
|
him sincere best wishes for a successful tenure; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. Damphousse as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
