R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, On March 23, 2023, State Representative
  Charlie Geren is being honored at the State Capitol by
  representatives of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo for his 50
  years of exceptional service to the organization; and
         WHEREAS, A director of the legendary Fort Worth Stock Show &
  Rodeo since 1976, Charlie Geren has saddled up to ride in the Rodeo
  Grand Entry on 1,337 consecutive occasions, never missing a
  performance, including the 720 since he became a member of the Texas
  House of Representatives in 2001; he has served the Fort Worth Stock
  Show & Rodeo organization in numerous roles over the years,
  including as vice president and junior steer show superintendent,
  and he has given generously of his time as a member of the executive
  committee and the junior heifer committee, among others;
  furthermore, he was the cofounding chair of the calf scramble
  committee, which was established in 1986; despite the demands of a
  busy schedule, he ably performs his work in the state legislature
  and at the Stock Show, often traveling back and forth between Austin
  and Fort Worth; and
         WHEREAS, Many years ago, when Representative Geren was a
  delivery driver for the Coca-Cola Company, a door of opportunity
  opened for him; after making a delivery to the Stock Show grounds,
  he approached then-Stock Show general manager W. R. Watt Sr. about
  the possibility of securing a job; Mr. Geren was soon working as
  part of the steer show operation; he has now been actively involved
  for 50 years with the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, a legendary
  event that traces its origins to 1896 and has a local direct
  economic impact of more than $100 million annually; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of the past five decades, Charlie
  Geren has made many valuable contributions to the Fort Worth Stock
  Show & Rodeo, and it is indeed a pleasure to join in recognizing him
  for his outstanding work; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend State Representative Charlie Geren for
  his exceptional service to the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Representative Geren as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
