R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Scouts BSA Troop No. 434 in the Sunnyside community |
|
|
of Houston is celebrating the 55th anniversary of its founding in |
|
|
2023; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Troop No. 434 was established in 1968 with the help |
|
|
of scoutmaster London Wilson and assistant scoutmasters Robert Bass |
|
|
and Marcellus Washington; Mr. Wilson served as scoutmaster until |
|
|
1976 when Lonnie Burrell and Robert Price took over the troop; in |
|
|
1999, Troop No. 1008 transferred its membership to Troop No. 434, |
|
|
and that year, Sullivan Thornton Jr. was selected as scoutmaster; |
|
|
over the years, the troop has benefited from the generous support of |
|
|
Bud's Meat Market and Johnson Funeral Home; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, Troop No. 434 is led by scoutmaster Lionel |
|
|
Tomlin and assistant scoutmasters Brandon Achane, Arthur Gibbs, and |
|
|
Roland Foster, and it has produced 40 Eagle Scouts since 2000; for |
|
|
more than 30 years, the troop has enjoyed the sponsorship of |
|
|
Blueridge United Methodist Church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Scouts BSA Troop No. 434 has made a significant |
|
|
difference in the lives of countless young Texans while |
|
|
contributing to the betterment of the community, and it is indeed a |
|
|
pleasure to join in recognizing this momentous milestone in the |
|
|
group's rich history; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 55th anniversary of Scouts BSA |
|
|
Troop No. 434 and extend to its members and leaders sincere best |
|
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the troop as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
