R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Rudy D. Garza was named president and CEO of CPS |
|
Energy in San Antonio in September 2022, becoming the first |
|
Hispanic person to lead the utility; and |
|
WHEREAS, Previously, Mr. Garza distinguished himself as |
|
interim chief of CPS Energy, which is ranked as the country's |
|
largest municipally owned electric and natural gas company; over |
|
the course of just 10 months, he led the utility to the approval of |
|
the first rate case in eight years, as well as the approval of the |
|
next phase of energy efficiency and conservation programs, |
|
representing significant innovation on a path to net zero; he also |
|
engaged in fruitful discussions with the board of trustees and the |
|
Rate Advisory Committee on future power generation planning; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Garza has more than 25 years of experience in |
|
the utility industry, in both the public and private sectors; he |
|
joined CPS Energy in 2012 and has served in a number of roles; |
|
before becoming interim president and CEO, he was chief customer |
|
and stakeholder engagement officer; as senior vice president of |
|
distribution service and operations, he oversaw the maintenance and |
|
construction activity of the electric distribution system; he also |
|
served the company as vice president of external relations; and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, |
|
Mr. Garza earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering |
|
and went on to complete a master's degree in business |
|
administration at the University of North Texas; he is a member of |
|
the advisory board for the UT Cockrell School of Engineering; in |
|
addition, he benefits the local community through his service on a |
|
number of boards; and |
|
WHEREAS, Rudy Garza has demonstrated exceptional skill, deep |
|
knowledge, and a strong commitment to transparency, and CPS Energy |
|
is sure to benefit greatly from his experienced leadership in the |
|
years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Rudy D. Garza on his appointment as |
|
president and CEO of CPS Energy and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
