R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Judson High School Unified Special Olympics team |
|
|
reached the pinnacle of success by winning the 2023 Unified |
|
|
Basketball University Interscholastic League state championship; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Competing on March 6 in San Antonio, Judson battled |
|
|
for the state crown against the talented team from Huntsville High |
|
|
School; the Rockets turned in an exceptional performance, emerging |
|
|
triumphant by the final score of 33-24 to claim their inaugural |
|
|
state title; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, the Rockets |
|
|
received valuable contributions from each member of the roster; |
|
|
these determined student-athletes benefit from the leadership of |
|
|
head coach Amy Paul, an adaptive physical education teacher who |
|
|
serves as the Judson Independent School District head of delegation |
|
|
for Special Olympics; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Judson is in its second year of participation with |
|
|
Unified Champion Schools, a UIL-sanctioned Special Olympics |
|
|
program that works in partnership with the U.S. Department of |
|
|
Education to promote inclusion and acceptance among students with |
|
|
and without intellectual disabilities; moreover, the initiative |
|
|
fosters the principles of respect, dignity, and unity while |
|
|
empowering youth to create a supportive environment on campus; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the |
|
|
culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering |
|
|
commitment to excellence, and the Judson Rockets are a source of |
|
|
great pride to their families, their school, and their many |
|
|
supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Judson High School Unified |
|
|
Special Olympics team on winning the 2023 Unified Basketball UIL |
|
|
state championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Rockets as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
