R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The commemoration of Library Day in the State of
  Texas provides a welcome opportunity to recognize public libraries
  for their many contributions to their communities; and
         WHEREAS, The oldest continuously operating library in the
  state, the Dr. Eugene Clark Library in Lockhart was named for a
  Central Texas physician and opened in July 1900; today, there are
  some 870 public libraries throughout the state; and
         WHEREAS, Libraries are vital institutions that provide a wide
  variety of services and programs to citizens of all ages; in
  addition, librarians often work with school boards and local
  officials to curate collections that reflect the interests and
  needs of their communities; and
         WHEREAS, By offering a diverse range of books and other
  media, libraries give patrons the opportunity to explore different
  perspectives, to become more empathetic toward other lived
  experiences, and to celebrate imagination and creativity; and
         WHEREAS, Public libraries have been a source of
  enlightenment, entertainment, and inspiration for generations of
  Texans, and it is a privilege to join in recognizing these
  outstanding cultural institutions for the central role they play in
  their communities; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate Library Day and extend to librarians
  across the state sincere best wishes for continued success with
  their important work.
