R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Richardson Rotary Club has played an important
  role in the community for nearly 85 years; and
         WHEREAS, The club traces its origins back to the summer of
  1938, when Ben Jackson convinced a group from Richardson to attend a
  meeting of the Garland Rotary Club; inspired by the Rotary message,
  14 Richardson men stepped forward to establish a local club with
  Clifford Huffines as its first president; the chapter was chartered
  by Rotary International on September 14, 1938, and the organization
  decided to sponsor the first Boy Scout troop in town as its
  inaugural project; and
         WHEREAS, Today, the Richardson Rotary Club seeks to benefit
  the community in seven areas of focus: peace building and conflict
  prevention, disease prevention and treatment, water, sanitation,
  and hygiene, maternal and child health, basic education and
  literacy, community economic development, and the environment;
  among its many charitable endeavors, the club provides scholarships
  to students from Berkner, Pearce, and Richardson High Schools;
  moreover, it recently hosted a blood and clothing drive in
  partnership with the Network of Community Ministries; and
         WHEREAS, For nearly eight and a half decades, the Richardson
  Rotary Club has made a positive difference in the lives of many
  Texans, and the group's noteworthy achievements are a tribute to
  the unwavering commitment of its members; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature commend the Richardson Rotary Club for its
  contributions to the community and extend to all those associated
  with the club sincere best wishes for continued success with their
  important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Richardson Rotary Club as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
