R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Mission Historical Museum celebrated the 20th |
|
anniversary of its founding on December 21, 2022; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although the Mission Historical Society took the |
|
first steps to open the museum in 2000, efforts to secure a building |
|
for the project were not realized until 2002, when the Mission City |
|
Council voted to establish the museum in the former city hall; the |
|
Mission Historical Museum opened its doors on December 21, 2002, |
|
and through the help of donations, it has since offered admission |
|
free of charge to residents and visitors to the area; and |
|
WHEREAS, The museum features a number of permanent and |
|
temporary exhibits showcasing objects and records of historical |
|
significance to Mission and western Hidalgo County; in addition to |
|
preserving the heritage of the area, the museum is committed to |
|
playing an active role in the community, and to that end, it hosts a |
|
variety of events and free programs for patrons of all ages |
|
throughout the year; and |
|
WHEREAS, For the past two decades, the Mission Historical |
|
Museum has served as a resource for learning, a center for community |
|
life, and an important repository of the region's history, and it is |
|
fitting to acknowledge the dedicated work of the museum's |
|
volunteers, staff, and supporters; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Mission |
|
Historical Museum and extend to all those associated with the |
|
museum sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Mission Historical Museum as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
