R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Edcouch-Elsa High School girls' powerlifting
  team continued its tradition of excellence by winning the 2023
  Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association 5A Division II
  state championship on March 18 at the Comerica Center in Frisco; and
         WHEREAS, On the road to a third consecutive title,
  Edcouch-Elsa dominated the 5A Division II Region V Championship on
  March 1, 2023, nearly doubling the point total of its nearest
  competitor; at the state meet, the Yellowjackets continued to
  excel, earning 22 points to narrowly defeat second place Elgin High
  School and clinch another state crown; and
         WHEREAS, The team was paced by Georgina Alaniz, who captured
  her third straight state championship and set records in the
  132-pound weight class with her 430-pound squat and 1,015-pound
  total mark; in the 97-pound division, Zillah Velez earned the
  silver medal by hoisting a total of 635 pounds, and Katie Contreras
  placed fourth in the same weight class with a 545-pound tally;
  Adrienne Anzaldua posted a total of 725 pounds to finish second in
  the 105-pound division, and Emma Garza placed third in the
  220-pound class with 1,015 pounds; and
         WHEREAS, The Yellowjackets were also represented at the state
  competition by Kaylee Beltran, Leslie Torres, Mia Gonzalez, Brianna
  Contreras, Natalyn Reyes, Susie De Los Santos, and Yadhira De Los
  Santos; and
         WHEREAS, The members of the Edcouch-Elsa girls' powerlifting
  team demonstrated commendable skill, determination, and heart
  during their triumphant quest to become "three-peat" state
  champions, and they may reflect with well-deserved pride on this
  extraordinary achievement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Edcouch-Elsa High School
  girls' powerlifting team on winning the 2023 THSWPA 5A Division II
  state championship and extend to the team's athletes, coaches, and
  staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Yellowjackets as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
