R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For 175 years, residents of Nacogdoches have come
  together to celebrate their faith at Christ Episcopal Church; and
         WHEREAS, One of the oldest Protestant churches in the area,
  Christ Episcopal Church was first organized in April 1848 as Christ
  Church Nacogdoches; the congregation held its inaugural worship
  service in the local courthouse on June 14 and began construction on
  a wood frame church building three years later; the church
  relocated to a brick chapel that it built on the Nacogdoches
  University campus at the turn of the century, and that structure was
  later moved to land adjacent to what was then Stephen F. Austin
  State Teachers College; over the years, the building has undergone
  a number of additions and renovations, and a parish house was added
  in 1947; that same year, the church established Christ Episcopal
  School, the first Protestant private school in the city; and
         WHEREAS, The congregation has benefited from the able
  leadership of many dedicated pastors, and today that tradition of
  service is continued by the Reverend Karl E. Griswold-Kuhn; and
         WHEREAS, Christ Episcopal Church has long served as a source
  of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and its
  continued existence is a testament to the unwavering commitment of
  its members and clergy, both past and present; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 175th anniversary of Christ
  Episcopal Church in Nacogdoches and extend to the congregation
  sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Christ Episcopal Church as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
